Hong Kong Strengthens Web3 Future with Three New Task Force Members
Hong Kong is taking clear steps to grow its place in the world of blockchain and digital money. The government has just added three new non-official members to its Task Force on Promoting Web3 Development. These appointments will run until June 30, 2027, and they bring fresh ideas from both young experts and experienced leaders.
Who Are the New Members?
The new members are Mr Tamir Abdel-wahab, Mr Martin Wong Long-yin, and Mr Kevin Cui Song. Mr Abdel-wahab and Mr Wong joined through a youth self-recommendation program that started on August 1, 2026. Mr Cui Song began his role earlier on May 12, 2026. Officials say these picks mix industry know-how with new thinking from younger voices.
A government spokesman noted that the group will give useful advice to help Hong Kong grab chances in Web3. This moves the city closer to its goal in the Policy Statement 2.0 on Digital Assets, which aims to make Hong Kong a top global hub for digital money and blockchain projects.
Why This Task Force Matters
The Task Force first started in July 2023 after the Financial Secretary mentioned it in the 2023-24 Budget. It gives ideas on how to grow Web3 in a safe and steady way. The group is led by the Financial Secretary and includes both private sector people and top government and regulator officials.
Full members include names like Professor Alex Au Wai-chi, Mr Norman Chan Tak-lam, Dr Johnny Ng Kit-chong, and others from groups such as the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and the Securities and Futures Commission. The new additions fit right in to push forward plans for responsible growth.
What This Means for Crypto and Blockchain
These
Experts believe this will help create better rules that protect users while letting innovation happen. It also builds on earlier work to turn Hong Kong into a friendly place for crypto trading and Web3 projects from around the world.
Looking Ahead
The task force will keep meeting to share ideas on sustainable Web3 growth. Hong Kong already has strong support from places like Cyberport and Invest Hong Kong. These new members should add energy to reach the vision of a leading digital asset center.
Overall, the move shows Hong Kong is serious about staying ahead in the fast-changing world of blockchain and crypto. More updates are likely as the task force works toward its 2027 goals.
