Robinhood Event Contracts Fuel Record Quarter With Strong Growth

Robinhood Markets posted strong results for the second quarter. The company saw total net revenue climb to < $1.31 billion >. This marks a 32 percent rise from the same time last year. Much of the boost came from event contracts also known as prediction markets.

Key Numbers From the Quarter

Net income reached $573 million. That is up 48 percent year over year. Earnings per share hit $0.62. The firm also noted some one time gains that added extra to the bottom line.

Transaction revenue grew 44 percent to $776 million. Inside that total event contract revenue jumped to $156 million. This is more than ten times higher than last year. Traders placed over 13.6 billion event contracts during the period.

Other Revenue Streams

Options revenue rose 29 percent to $342 million. Equities revenue almost doubled to $129 million. Net interest income grew 9 percent to $389 million. Other revenue increased 54 percent thanks in part to Gold subscriptions and new account services.

Crypto trading revenue fell 38 percent to $100 million. Total crypto volume was $40 billion but the main app saw lower activity than before. The company still pushed ahead with new crypto tools including its own blockchain mainnet and stock tokens for users in many countries.

Customer Growth and Spending

Funded customers reached 28.4 million. Platform assets grew 32 percent to $369 billion. Robinhood Gold members increased 39 percent to 4.8 million. Average revenue per user rose 24 percent to $187.

The company spent more on marketing and new projects. Operating costs went up 33 percent. Still adjusted earnings before interest taxes and other items rose 35 percent to $741 million.

Looking Ahead

Robinhood lowered its full year cost outlook slightly. Investors will watch if event contract volume stays high and if crypto trading picks up again. The firm also plans more international moves but gave no exact dates for new markets.

Overall the quarter showed how can drive big results even when other areas slow down. Robinhood continues to add new products while managing costs and growth at the same time.
